Not all stainless steels are created equal, Enduro uses only 440C stainless steel balls and rings to provide long life and superior corrosion resistance in what may be less than ideal applications and environments. 440C steel has the highest strength, hardness and wear resistance of any of the standard 440 series high carbon stainless alloys. Not surprisingly, it is also the most expensive of the 440 series alloys and requires several cycles of heat and cryogenic treatment to achieve its superior mechanical properties. Although stainless steel has a 20% lower load carrying capacity and is slightly softer than our standard 52100 chrome steel used in most of our bearings, stainless steel is an excellent alternative for use in wet conditions, if you wash your bike often or if sweat may be an issue. Enduro Bearings also uses LLB seals and CRC marine grease in these bearings for an extra seal against the elements. The Enduro line of angular contact helmet bearings starts with black oxide treated chrome steel bushings, moves to 440C stainless steel, and the top of the line is XD15 aerospace stainless steel (bushings and balls), guaranteed for life. They are always designed with the largest balls possible, have double lip seals set in a micro groove (labyrinth), and are 90% filled with waterproof high pressure grease for ultimate protection against sweat and the elements.
